Tuesday 16th March - Akaroa

Tuesday 16th March - Akaroa (means "Long Harbour")

This morning we set off to pick up Carol Thomson for a visit to Akaroa about an hour and a half's drive away. It was a beautiful morning when we left, but when we got to the small town of Little River, where the railway used to go, we began to climb the hills and down came the mist! By the time we got over the hills down to Akaroa it started to drizzle and rain.

After visiting the iSite office (which was hidden away down at the waterfront):

From there we went to Billy Hayes restaurant for lunch:

This turned out to be an expensive place to eat for us! However the food and the service was good.

After that we drove up to the Akaroa Museum:

This provided a great history of Akaroa - video presentations, artifacts and text.

Before we went home we drove up to the Lighthouse:

  1. We've never been to Akaroa, but I believe it's very pretty, even in the drizzle.
