Sunday 14th March - Kaikoura to Christchurch

Sunday 14th March - Kaikoura to Christchurch

We set off at about 10:30 for Christchurch along the coastal route. It was a perfect day: blue sky, no wind and beautiful views of the rocky coast line.

The highway was very good - new in parts after the earthquake. After about an hour we came to the little town of Cheviot where we stopped for morning tea:-

Good coffee, great sandwiches and friendly service. When we went back to the car Mary-Ann found a Yellow Admiral on the road. It must have been hit by a car and was a bit stunned because it just sat in her hand:-

She let it go into the bushes in the park nearby.

We carried on down SH 1 and found the North South Holiday Park at about 2:00pm squeezed in between a garage and commercial businesses - and near the International Airport.

In the flowering Lacebark behind us we heard, and then saw, a Riro-Riro warbling away - nice.

Once we had had a shower we were off to visit Grame Norman and his wife Kate in a beautiful new house with a lovely garden. Graeme had cooked a pork roast on the barbecue. It was superb.

Got back at about 8:30 - still in daylight.

Been a great day!
