South Island Tour March 2021 - Kihikihi to Marton

Saturday 6th March 2021 - to Marton

We're off, well almost! Didn't leave till 11:00am by the time we got everything packed up and checked that we hadn't forgotten anything - like whisky. Rang Patty and Tom at 8:30am to check that our ferry booking was active. I thought that we had to have a ticket printed out, but it seems that the email printout with the Booking Registration number is sufficient! Things you wake up in the morning at 2:30 thinking about!

We stopped at Taupo for lunch at a Bakery.

Then set off for Waiouru. The heather on the Desert Road was beautiful.

The café there had been upgraded and was really nice and the coffee was great. I meant to ask what beans they used and forgot.

Mary-Ann drove from there - in the rain. She had to put on her glasses ( while driving) to see where she was going - scary for me!

We finally got to Marton and the NZMCA caravan park.

Brian met us as soon as we drove in and gave us instructions about where to park. It cost us $3 a night for each adult - $6 - who can complain about that - shower and toilet available! It must have been a commercial campsite at some stage.
