Sunday 21st March - Oamaru - Penguins

 Sunday 21st March - Oamaru - Penguins

This afternoon - as the iSite was closed? - we went looking for the Penguin colonies. We found the site of the visitor centre for viewing Little Blue Penguins.

The penguins come ashore on dark about 7:30 and scramble up the beach to their specially set up burrows by the Visitor Centre:-

Here are the burrow sites:-

This is the viewing stand at the end of the walkway

A long view back to the office.

This is the beach where the Little Blue Penguins come ashore.

It is also where the Seals like to haul ashore:

Later on we went on a drive out to the place where the Yellow Eyed Penguins come ashore on dusk at Bushy Beach with a viewing platform high up over a spectacular view of the beach:-
