Saturday 20th March - Travel to Oamaru
We decided not to to stay an extra night at Tekapo. The cloud had come down and it was a different day from yesterday!
We made a donation to the Church of the Good Shepherd as it was such a beautiful place and went on our way.
The things that strike you driving on the Canterbury Plains are:-
- The long straight roads - sometimes you can't see the end of the road from the start
- The irrigation goin on all over the place - how sustainable is that I wonder, before the streams or the aquifers all dry up and there is none left?
One of the rivers was the Waitaki that we crossed over just before Oamaru.
A great example of a South Island braided river:-
We got to the Top 10 Holiday Park in Oamaru where the obliging manager in the office found us a powered site even when the sign said that there were none available:-
